ISSUES Class - 5-part series on Health Care insurance,reform,research

October 11 - David Jones Jr, Chairman of the Board of Humana and a leading venture capitalist bringing to market new technologies, information, and services to make healthcare more effective and efficient,, will present an overview of the health insurance reform debate from an insurer's perspective.  He will summarize the current debate, identify the central issues, and share his perspective.

October 18:  Mike Muldoon, Executive Director of Health Enterprises Network(sister company of Greater Louisville, Inc.) will address current status of health reform from differing perspectives, why change is taking so long and is so painful, potential and real solutions to these complex problems, and what the fallout might be for the ocnsumer and the economy.

October 25:  Dr. Esther Costel will speak about the need for comparative effectiveness research.  She writes, "I will suggest that researchis necessary, but not sufficient to hold down the burgeoning costs of medical care."

November 1:  Rev. Marian McClure will speak on "Faith Communities' Connections with Health Care Reform."  She will let us know what other churches are doing and what organizations we may want to connect with to make a difference ourselves.

November 8:  Tihisha Rawlins, Associate State Director of Grassroots Initiatives for AARP Kentucky, will share her perspective on health care reform proposals being debated in Congress and discuss their potential impact on Kentucky citizens. She was previously the Director of the State Health Insurance Assistance Program for Kentucky state government.
