"Above all, maintain constant love for one another;
Be hospitable to one another without complaining;
Serve one another with whatever gift each of you has received"
1 Peter 4:8-10
The Congregational Life Team of Highland Presbyterian Church is called to encourage and assist members of all ages to participate in the life and ministry of the church through member care.
Care to the members of our congregation and beyond is carried out daily in a variety of ways and you may become a part of the giving and receiving! Session, staff and the entire congregation work together to coordinate how we can best practically and graciously give and receive care in the name of Christ.
Member Care: Through the Member Care Committee the entire congregation helps by:
- Preparing and delivering meals to families in crisis
- Providing transportation to worship for people
- Visiting our homebound members once a month (upon request)
- Writing encouraging notes and cards of support to folks who are sick or otherwise in need
- Gathering weekly to pray for specific requests
- Providing Welcome and connections to church visitors and new members
- Coordinating our Homebound Communion four times a year
- Celebrating our members over 80 years old with a gala birthday luncheon every three years, and smaller events in the other years!
- Through the Stephen Ministry offering Grief Books to individuals throughout the first year following the death of close family members.
In addition, our church staff helps by:
- Coordinating and serving in these ministries
- Visiting and following up with hospitalized members
- Providing counseling and various referrals as needed.
In our member care at Highland Presbyterian Church we seek to celebrate our joys together and to share the heavy burdens of grief and loss. We strive to keep the lines of communication open, so that members in need can receive the spiritual, emotional and physical support that we can provide for one another. We are all blessed over and over in this giving and receiving of God's love and care.
Stephen Ministry
Stephen Ministry is grounded in Jesus' command to love one another. Through one-to-one caring relationships, those who are hurting receive the love and care they need to support them.
A Stephen Minister is a lay person who has received 50 hours of training in how to provide distinctively Christian care. Our Stephen Ministers meet with their leaders monthly for confidential, ongoing supervision and continuing education.
For more information about Stephen Ministry call the church office at 451-2910.
"Bear one another's burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ." (Galatians 6:2)
Prayer Quilt Ministry
Quilts are made by church members for other church members who are seriously ill, homebound and/or are recovering. They provide physical and spiritual comfort through their color, their warmth, and the love and prayers that make them complete.
The entire congregation is asked to participate whenever quilts appear on this table. Each quilt will be made for a specific person with the knots untied. We are asked to hold a set of the yarn strands, offer a prayer for the person for whom the quilt is made, tie the strands into a knot, and sign the accompanying card to extend our love and care. The project members have complete kits for you to sew at home, if you would like to help with this ministry.
Please call the church office (451-2910) if you would like to make a quilt, or to notify us of a member in need.
